I finally got on the blog through the hospital network!
Morning began at 0530 with a happy baby Josie. When the bottle was not formula, however, she became not so happy. She took 4 ounces of Pedialyte and was done with that. I tried it and must say it isn't too tasty.
Arrival to hospital second floor we found surgery waiting room, checked in and received our identification bands. After changing a dirty diaper (glad she did not do that for the strangers, that would not be lady-like) we went to preoperative holding. They gave us a small amount of sugar water which I was able to dip the pacifier in and give her to soothe her. She took a nap and rested well. Nurse came and took history and we met the operating room nurse, Ruben. Dr Wilson, attending anesthesiologist came in to talk. He is not pediatric fellowship trained, but he spent 3 years in Iraq doing peds trauma and became the peds anesthesiologist in his unit. We cut the chase and started talking anesthesia. I asked all of my questions and received satisfactory answers. I met the resident and med student. Asked that the med student be put on pen duty... I know I've been there but it is my baby today. If you are in the medical world, you know the significance of July... Turnover, green docs and residents...
We kissed precious Josie a "see you soon" kiss, they wrapped her in a nice warm blanket and she immediately calmed down and closed her eyes and the resident anesthesiologist carried her away to the operating room. The attending stayed behind a moment. He looked me in the eye and said "I will not leave the room. You have my word. I will treat her like my own". He shook my hand, I said "thank you" and he left.
Josh and I bowed for a moment of prayer and now are in the waiting room anxiously waiting. Writing blog, texting. Many of you have asked how Josh and I are. Josh is cool as a cucumber. I am doing ok. Mommy heart hurts. Professional brain knows everything will be ok. Today mommy trumps everything else.
The outpouring of prayers and love from everyone has been so comforting. We appreciate it from the depths of our hearts. Keep praying and I will keep updating!!
cracking up at the july med student!!!! considering he just got a white coat a few weeks ago, i think you had every right to say something!!! :)
